It was a sudden horn that started me, don't know how long it's been by then. Walked the direction opposite to my house and it was a long way back to my lane.
The sun was blazing at two in the afternoon, I wasn't ready to go home yet .
A decade of memories,building a home ,a vacuum is all is left.
What could I have said, you shouldn't go?Not that it mattered anymore
Even when my heart felt famished ,everything I could think of sounded quite selfish
I couldn't stop him, had to let go,how much of me was him, wished he would have known
Felt a little pain in my knees so grabbed the bus stop bench.My legs were probably hurting for long but emotions superseded the pain.

A few hours must have passed, thinking there wasn't anywhere to go, anything to look forward to, hold a hand I know.
It was dark when I headed back, the eve of a new year.
There was cheerful noise all around, but the empty road was all I could bear

Something soft touched my feet and I instantly jumped in shock.
A puppy on the roadside gasping for air, she lacked even the strength to cry.

I picked her up and could feel her ribs ,in a palm of mine she could fit
She looked frail ,still wagging her tail but I could say she hadn't had food for days.
I looked around searching for her mother but , only darkness is all I could gather
so I tucked her in my jacket and carried her home. Little did I know then she will become my little home.
Next morning she woke me up at 5, with every passing day she became the blessing life devised.
A decade has passed since that day,sharing our blues,reds and greys
Sometimes I still wonder though, was that my saddest or  happiest day.
